The original Northgate Brewery, which has been converted to apartments, was founded in the second half of the 18th Century. The current site dates from 1837 and was bought by Henry Alfred Wadworth in 1875. He built the Northgate Brewery on the site in 1885. The company was first registered in 1898. In 1923, 6X appeared on the scene and was a 6% beer. This was reduced to 4.1% in 1939 because of war rationing and remains at that gravity today. In 2020 it was announced that a new brewery would be built, fit for the 21st century. The Folly Road Brewhouse is gradually taking over the brewing of the entire range of beers
