Ihlers and Bell were dominant in sales of Bass in South America and West Africa in the latter part of the 19th century. They were taken over by Blood Wolfe in 1887, but continued to trade as a separate company. Here is an early Bass Light Bitter Ale label.

This is a very nice label and a bit of a rarity as there are few of the ‘Green Diamond’ Light Bitter Ale labels about.
Did you know that Bass also used the ‘Green Diamond’ trade mark on beers labelled as ‘Light Bottling Ale’ and ‘Light Pale Ale’??? These also seem to be for the export market but different parts of the world. Any one out there know which countries these different titles were used in???
Cheers
